We spend a lot of time thinking about how to care for our skin. But what about everything happening beneath it?
As we age, we may notice our jawline becoming less defined, our cheeks losing fullness, or the skin around our eyes beginning to change.
While collagen loss and skin elasticity play an important role, facial aging is more complex. Changes in muscle activity, fat distribution, connective tissue, and even bone structure all influence how our face looks over time.
This is why we're interested in treatments that go beyond the skin's surface.
And it's what makes microcurrent such an interesting addition to our approach to facial rejuvenation.
WHAT IS MICROCURRENT, AND HOW DOES IT WORK?
Microcurrent uses very low levels of electrical current to gently stimulate facial tissues, including the muscles beneath the skin.
You may have heard it described as a workout for your face. While it's not quite the same as exercising your muscles at the gym, the comparison helps explain why microcurrent has become popular for facial toning and contouring.
Unlike stronger forms of electrical muscle stimulation (EMS), true microcurrent typically produces little visible muscle movement and is generally comfortable.
The technology is also being studied for its effects on cellular activity, including ATP, the molecule responsible for supplying energy to our cells.
Although research on long-term facial lifting is still developing, some clients notice a temporarily more sculpted, refreshed appearance following treatment.
WHAT ARE THE BENEFITS OF MICROCURRENT?
Microcurrent is particularly appealing for clients who are beginning to notice changes in facial definition or who want to explore noninvasive ways to care for their face as they age.
Depending on the individual, potential cosmetic benefits include:
A subtly lifted or more contoured appearance
Improved appearance of the cheeks and jawline
Temporary reduction in facial puffiness
A smoother, more refreshed look
Microcurrent won't replace lost facial volume or reverse significant skin laxity, but it can be a lovely addition to a thoughtful facial care routine.
INTRODUCING OUR NEW MYOLIFT MICROCURRENT FACIAL
We're excited to bring MyoLift to Sacred.
This advanced microcurrent technology allows our estheticians to work with different areas of the face using specialized probes and customized techniques.
We incorporate hydrating copper peptides and conductive gel to support the treatment while providing additional skincare benefits.
MyoLift can also be paired with some of our favorite Sacred treatments, including HydraInfusion for hydration and our Buccal Facial for specialized facial massage.
It's an appealing option before a special event, particularly if you're looking for a refreshed appearance without significant downtime.
CAN MICROCURRENT AFFECT MY BOTOX?
This is a question we hear often, and it's an important one.
Botox and microcurrent work in different ways.
Botox temporarily blocks nerve signals to targeted muscles, reducing the movements responsible for certain expression lines.
Microcurrent, on the other hand, uses gentle electrical stimulation to target facial tissues. It doesn't work through the same mechanism as Botox.
Microcurrent doesn't automatically cancel out Botox, but there isn't enough clinical research to determine whether it affects how long Botox lasts or provides additional benefits to Botox-treated muscles.
Many clients choose to incorporate both treatments into their facial care routines. We recommend waiting at least two weeks after Botox before receiving microcurrent and consulting your injector when appropriate.
HOW OFTEN SHOULD YOU DO MICROCURRENT?
Some clients notice a difference after a single session, which makes microcurrent an attractive option before a wedding, photoshoot, or special occasion.
For clients interested in ongoing facial care, we may recommend a series followed by maintenance treatments.
The ideal frequency depends on your individual goals and how you respond. While repeated sessions are commonly recommended, there isn't yet a universally established schedule for achieving lasting results.
Our estheticians can help you develop a treatment plan that makes sense for your skin.
WHAT DOES MICROCURRENT FEEL LIKE?
Most clients find the experience comfortable and relaxing.
You may notice a slight tingling sensation, particularly around bony areas. Occasionally, clients experience a temporary metallic taste or flashes of light when working near the eyes.
The treatment shouldn't be painful, and there's typically little to no downtime.
Microcurrent isn't appropriate for everyone, including some individuals with implanted electronic medical devices or certain medical conditions. We'll review your health history before treatment to ensure it's a suitable option.
A MORE THOUGHTFUL APPROACH TO FACIAL AGING

There's no single treatment that addresses every aspect of facial aging, which is why we take a personalized approach to skincare.
MyoLift gives us another way to care for the face, combining gentle technology with the expertise of our estheticians.
