Small Business Spotlight: ID Hot Yoga
In a city that rarely slows down, ID Hot Yoga’s classes offer something deeper than a workout. Through intentional heat, breath, and alignment-based guidance, this studio creates space for students to reconnect with their bodies without pressure, comparison, or pushing past their limits.
We chatted with the owner of ID Hot Yoga, Tricia Donegan, to learn more about what sets them apart from other yoga studios, to see how how it supports your overall wellbeing, and more!
Q: WHAT MAKES AN ID HOT YOGA CLASS DIFFERENT FROM A TRADITIONAL HOT YOGA EXPERIENCE?
A: We empower the students with alignment information and modification choices to make their own decisions on what depth to take each pose. All classes are accessible and challenges to all. They all are delivered with injury knowledge.
Q: WHAT DO YOU HOPE SOMEONE FEELS THE FIRST TIME THEY WALK INTO YOUR STUDIO?
A: Welcomed and supported in the yoga experience and practice.
Q: HOW DOES HOT YOGA SUPPORT BOTH PHYSICAL AND EMOTIONAL WELL-BEING, ESPECIALLY FOR BUSY NEW YORKERS?
A: Exercising and breathing in a heated room promotes increased flexibility, detoxification through sweat, improved cardiovascular health, and stress reduction. The heat allows deeper stretches, boosts metabolism, and builds strength while increasing circulation and, in some cases, improving skin health. Major points are increased flexibility and mobility, cardiovascular conditioning, stress reduction and mental focus, detoxification and skin health, and increased lung capacity.
Q: HOW DO YOU HELP YOUR STUDENTS FEEL GROUNDED IN SUCH A FAST-PACED CITY?
A: We support our students individually even in group classes, so there is no over thinking or distractions, but positive focus that slows students down so they can connect with themselves and each other.
Q: HAVE YOU WITNESSED ANY TRANSFORMATIONS THAT REALLY STUCK WITH YOU?
A: We have had our Lower East Studio for over 20 years, and many students that long, tremendous physical transitions with weight loss, strength building, flexibility and mobility increases, recovery from injures is my favorite, students learn how to use their practice and bodies to heal. A yoga practice goes beyond physicality; it creates mindfulness, awareness, and relaxation that contributes to better mental health and longevity.
Q: WHAT HAS BEEN THE MOST REWARDING PART OF BUILDING A WELLNESS BUSINESS IN NYC?
A: Providing students and staff a safe place to practice and work, a space where release and growth happens.
Q: IF SOMEONE IS NERVOUS ABOUT TRYING HOT YOGA, WHAT WOULD YOU SAY TO THEM?
A: Come hydrated, take breaks, and enjoy moving along with your breath. Don’t make it hard or easy, make it right for you.
